I should have meditated yesterday but I was traveling and didn’t make the time. The funny thing about doing something good for ourselves is that we have to make time for it. Where it should be at the top of our list. We should come first. That’s hard to do when you are a mom, wife, business owner, teacher. So I decided today I would do it. Sit and be still and meditate.
Ok not that easy. First, When is a good time? Some say first thing in the morning before you start your day others say in the evening before bed. None of those times feel right to me. I decided that my morning coffee is more important. Yes I am a coffeeaholic. I like to wake up with my fresh roasted coffee check my emails, log on to my computer at the office to see what I need to do for the day, Check Face Book and Instagram, Journal my to do list, get myself ready to teach yoga and then finally sitting down in a sunny spot to meditate. So I thought.
Today I did all those things and once I sat down and started to breathe my mind started to wander. Not on the things I needed to do but on all the distractions like my daughter coming downstairs and asking me something right into my 10th breath. People walking around upstairs making noise. I kept loosing tract of my counts and had to start all over. I did finally get to 20 breaths but I felt so pushed to get there I kept breathing until I felt a little relaxed.
I can see why there are those people who love to use Mala beads. Though that is still doing something and I am really trying to not do anything but breathe.
I had such a great experience with meditation at the lake the other day that I thought it would be a little easier today. But you know what its ok its all good and its a start. Everything we do in life is a journey and this is the beginning of my meditation journey. You can follow along if you want. I would love to here your meditation journey if you would like to share in the comments below.
